We appreciate your long tenure with us and recognize that you value the collaborative, supportive work environment. However, we're concerned that you feel there are low expectations and limited growth opportunities - this doesn't align with the dynamic, innovation-driven culture we strive to create, especially in our technology teams that are critical to advancing our life sciences mission. As a Software Engineering Manager, you play a vital role in developing solutions that impact millions of lives, and we want to ensure you feel challenged and engaged in meaningful work. We'd like to better understand your experience and work with you to address these concerns. We've recently invested heavily in our technology leadership development through our Leadership Academy, AI-enabled learning platforms, and enhanced career progression pathways. We're also expanding our software engineering capabilities across multiple locations and product lines, creating new opportunities for technical leadership and career advancement. We encourage you to connect with your manager and HR team to discuss your career aspirations and explore how we can better support your professional growth and ensure you're working on challenging, impactful projects that match your expertise and ambitions.

Pros

Decent benefits and work/life balance. I'm hesitant to include work/life balance as a pro because you have to fight for it. They will drain every ounce of your time and life if you don't set your own limits. There is an overwhelming and always increasing amount of work with no commensurate increase in compensation. If you are desperate or just need a place to start, this company is okay, but I would highly suggest being ready to job hunt again in a few years.

Cons

Very low pay versus market, especially when compared to responsibilities and work load. Raises are either non-existent or close enough to zero to be offensive. From what I can tell, the organization is a mess structurally. There's no clear chain of command, and people/groups have overlapping responsibilities. The opinions of those people/groups drives changes within the company, and those opinions often conflict. People doing the actual work end up with repetitive tasks solely due to failure of leadership and management. There's a constant flood of new ideas (assuming coming from leadership) that cause current projects to be rushed to completion and all backlog of tasks to be pushed back. This is where some sort of proper leadership or management would be beneficial. Leadership and management is a huge weak point of the company. Combine an unfiltered flood of new tasks, often conflicting, with a lack of leadership, and the end result is a burned out, resentful workforce. The employees doing the actual work end up taking on the responsibility of the people who should be supporting and helping them develop professionally. Management seems to be struggling as well. So I do not really see them as the source of the issue. The problems appear to be systemic and cascading from the top. The company is filled with people who cannot adapt to new challenges and use existing tools to solve new problems they encounter in their everyday work. A large number of employees do not attempt to figure out their own solutions to problems. They make it someone else's problems. Inevitably, this means problems get passed top-down until it reaches someone willing to put in the effort to figure it.

Thank you for taking the time to share such comprehensive feedback about your experience at Revvity. We take your concerns very seriously, particularly regarding compensation, organizational structure, and leadership effectiveness. Your detailed observations about workload management, conflicting priorities, and the need for clearer operating procedures provide valuable insights that we're committed to addressing. We recognize that our software development teams are critical to our mission, and we want to ensure they feel supported, fairly compensated, and able to do their best work in a well-structured environment. We're actively working on compensation benchmarking, organizational clarity initiatives, and leadership development programs to address these systemic issues you've identified. We'd encourage you to share this feedback directly with HR leadership through our confidential channels so we can work on specific improvements. We're investing in enhanced management training through our Leadership Academy, implementing clearer project prioritization processes, and conducting comprehensive compensation reviews to ensure our technical talent is competitively rewarded. Your experience doesn't reflect the supportive, growth-oriented culture we strive to create, and we're committed to making meaningful changes. We value employees like you who are willing to provide honest feedback - it's essential for driving the improvements our organization needs to better support our teams and achieve our mission.
