Pros

Working with students and partner colleges is genuinely rewarding—helping people reach their goals is the best part of the job. My direct manager was fantastic: they listen, advocate for the team, and truly care about our success. Before the buyout (from Wiley, a great company), there was a lot of autonomy and trust—I felt like I was running my own business, and with decades of sales experience, I thrived in that environment.

Cons

Since the acquisition, trust has eroded. Micromanagement from the executive level has replaced the autonomy that once made this role great. Leadership is disconnected from the realities of the job—either not listening or not acting when issues are raised, even when our managers do their best to escalate concerns. The metrics are unrealistic and seem more about appearing busy than achieving real results. The new system rollout was poorly executed, stripping away useful functionality and making it harder to meet already high expectations. Compensation does not reflect the workload or responsibility, and promised improvements often go unfulfilled.

Thank you for taking the time to share your detailed perspective. We appreciate your many years of commitment and are glad to hear that the work itself and the support of your direct manager were meaningful parts of your experience. The impact our teams have on our partners and their students, along with strong frontline leadership, is core to who we aim to be. We also hear your concerns and the challenges that can come with organizational change following an acquisition. Transitions of this scale can affect how work gets done, how decisions are made, and how supported teams feel, and we recognize that these shifts have not always landed as intended. Feedback like this is taken seriously and shared internally as we continue to evaluate how we lead, measure success, and support our teams more effectively. We remain committed to learning from experiences like yours and to improving how we listen to and empower our people. Thank you again for sharing your honest feedback and for the contributions you made during your time with us.

Pros

The workplace offers flexibility with its work-from-home arrangements, a significant benefit. However, this flexibility comes at the cost of intense micromanagement. While working remotely, employees must complete detailed timesheets, attend frequent manager check-ins, and fill out numerous long production forms with hundreds of checkpoints and zero room to move. The level of monitoring and documentation required often detracts from productive work time and creates an atmosphere of distrust through autocratic, centralised authority.

Cons

The workplace culture is heavily bureaucratic, with a rigid, top-down management approach and little understanding of mainstream management approaches. Communication about academic partners is often negative, which creates unnecessary 'us and them' tension and impacts project delivery and workplace culture. Despite offering generous educational benefits, including subsidised university opportunities, there appears to be limited engagement with or understanding of the education sector at the management level. This results in an overly process-driven culture that prioritises control over staff achievements. The company's learning design approach lags behind other Australian OPM providers, demonstrating stronger academic partnerships, more education-focused leadership, and more professional and rewarding workplaces.
