Pros
Your experience really depends on who you work for, I've been to both ends & fortunately, currently I'm on the right one. Ample learning opportunities, women-led marketing department. 100% remote work. The leaders on my team are not only super knowledgeable but are great teachers as well. There is always a lot of work so you learn a lot and because the directors/VPs have so much of their own actual work they don't micro manage and let you shine, guide you through new processes, answer your questions, tailor your ideas to actual optimizations without taking credit for it. I am still referring to my managers only because there are some who do the actual opposite.
Cons
- We don't have an official maternity leave, you have to file under fmla, forced to use your PTO first and then given 6 to 8 weeks off with 40% deduction in salary. And if you go beyond the 6 weeks, no salary at all. For me it was not that big of a problem because of my husband. But for mothers who don't have spousal support financially, to go through a body/mind altering process where the recovery takes months, and then be forced to come back to work or you don't have an income, it's sad. It's mind boggling how some 3rd world countries have better corporate policies for expecting mothers than we do. - We don't get bonuses so any actual pay bump comes with your promotion only, the yearly merit increases do not measure to the current inflation at all.
