Pros

The chance give people a personal camera experience

Pros

Work there if you are freelancing as a photographer and want access to the printing equipment and discounts. Otherwise, go back to school. Retail is not the career you're looking for. Seriously, though. If you are looking for strictly a retail job, there are other places that pay better. But if you plan to leverage this as a resource to drive your freelance work, then working here makes (dollars and) sense.

Cons

It's a retail job with lots of time pressures. Much more stress than the pay is worth. Your fellow employees are not likely to be the brightest bulbs on the tree.

Pros

At Ritz Camera, you get to interact with a lot different types of people. There's some pressure but if you have a good manager, it just means the days passes quickly. Most positions offer some ability to control your schedule. It's easy to have a good job and still attend school or have time for friends. Many positions require willingness to work on weekends, but this means you can have some weekdays off for personal appointments. You can generally decide whether you want to work full or part time. The health care benefits are excellent, with broad choice in doctors and small deductibles and copays.

Cons

Ritz is a specialty retail company, which means they pay "retail" wages. In many cases the pay is slightly below the prevailing rates, especially in urban areas where cost of living can be higher. The 401(k) plan does not include a company match. There is little opportunity for growth unless you are willing to relocate and/or travel frequently. Decisions are made at the "corporate" level and even district/regional managers have limited input on operations. The management is not "hip" to the open and social trends in technology; they'd rather lock customers in to their proprietary solutions instead of fostering interoperability and openness with other vendors.
