Pros

The R1S really is an amazing product. Was bummed to realize the culture, management, and company didn’t live up to the hype after four years.

Cons

RJ gets in the way and doesn’t let the talent leader. Major VPs and C suite executives are leaving left and right. There is no transparency, and there is no development for individual here.

Poor leadership and toxic culture

Pros

Great product, the R1S in particular is a game changer in the market

Cons

Poor leadership - the CEO and the majority of his directs are inexperienced and play favorites, which leads to poor managers at all levels Lack of strategy and alignment - company is doing too many things and pursuing initiatives that distract for the core business (e.g. E-bikes); lack of strategic goals, teams are pulled in multiple directions and the business can't prioritize efforts Poor execution - Yes men are rewarded despite the lack of quality, you can see this especially in the vehicle software space, too many program managers and too few doers Toxic culture - everyone is frustrated with the poor leadership and people have given trying to be good humans, this on top of the boys club found at all levels makes for a poor environment, especially for women

Pros

Neat product to work on. Awesome to see consumer reactions to the vehicles. Flexible schedules and vacation policy.

Cons

Company is defined by chaos and constant change. Leadership is incapable of providing a coherent overall strategy and sticking to it. The result is many organizations working in silos with poor communication. Projects are constantly started, paused, cancelled, and/or restarted and contractors are whipped around. Rivian doesn't go far in building relationships and trust with external partners. High turnover with frequent hiring and firing cycles. Layoff cycles are brutal with little notice. It's a matter of wrong place, wrong time. Also, there's significant arrogance amongst the tech/startup bros and ex-Tsla crowd. If you don't come from one of those groups and don't already have an internal network, g'luck. Lots of not so senior employees in senior positions because because they got buddies already in the company.
