I expected a lot more from this company

Pros

Lunch catered 3 times a week, free coffee and snacks, social club allowance, training allowance, roll out of new leave policies based on staff feedback

Cons

There are people in this company who lack responsibility – countless times I’ve had conversations with people and they have been unable to provide a reasonable or immediate response for things within their control. For a lot of people in the business, if something does not affect their variable remuneration, they will disregard it. There is poor work life balance – the business, with over 200 employees globally, has established itself as an experienced tech company, moving past the start-up phase. Despite this, it is under-resourced in certain teams and people get worked to the bone. Focused on testing and experimentation, recruitment is emphasised on hiring engineers, whilst the other functions are left to fend for themselves in a start-up environment. You work long hours and most of the time it goes unseen – it’s difficult to find time for projects when you’re performing BAU tasks for 12 hours a day, let alone find the opportunity to use the training allowance for career/personal development. Not everyone is intelligent and driven – some of them work hard to make up for it, but others have big egos and just take credit for someone else’s work. There are managers who don’t stand up for their own staff and like any other workplace, it’s all about connections. Staff are not valued and supported – people in leadership / management positions listen to your concerns and complaints, but most of the time they don’t bother taking any action. They are just out for themselves and wait for you to cut the ties.

Thank you for your feedback. We are very sorry you did not have a positive experience at Rokt. We know we don’t get everything right - we absolutely recognize we have room for improvement. We also recognize that Rokt is not for everyone - it can be challenging and can involve learning at a much faster pace than some are comfortable with. As you well point out, we are constantly listening to our team. We ask for feedback on a quarterly basis and constantly check in with team members. We do indeed pride ourselves in investing a lot of effort on communication and transparency. This is an area that is consistently rated very high by all our Rokt’stars in all our internal surveys. While some areas of changes are driven bottom up (e.g. some of the leave policy changes you mention) there are many changes where the initiative comes from the senior leadership team (e.g. transparency on salaries and career ladders). However, we don’t think it is a weakness to listen to the team’s feedback in order to understand where improvements are needed. A few of the concerns you raise (work/life balance and leadership) have recently been addressed with the introduction of new programs including our Rokt’star Sabbatical and a global in-person Learning and Development program for 2020 called Rokt University. We are proud of the culture we have built and we understand it is best built in partnership with our team of Rokt’stars to ensure we are all always improving. A great place to work

Pros

You will work with very smart, friendly and humble people. No matter how smart you are - you will learn a lot from them. There are many great perks (lunches, funded social clubs, technical and level-up allowance). Super-convenient office location (Sydney). There are regular surveys that allow upper management to detect issues in organisation and they do put real effort to fix them. It feels to me that Rokt becomes a better place to work every year.

Cons

Things change fast. If you like stability - this might not be your company. Every couple weeks your team might have a different "number one priority". Some people call it "agility", some people call it "chaos".

We agree - we are a very fast paced growing business and it is at times difficult to plan and anticipate a full year (sometimes quarter) in advance. We understand this might cause a sense of ‘chaos’ but we also embrace this as we go through an accelerated growth period. Cons
