Rokt is literally smoke and mirrors - don't believe the hype.

Pros

Catered lunch 3x a week, exotic offsites (Australia, Thailand, etc.)

Cons

Where to start. Honestly, I was so excited to join Rokt, having heard so much about their amazing company culture, working for a "disrupter" of sorts, the fact that they took awesome trips. I was willing to put in the hard work and effort to reap these amazing benefits. Then came the shock of my life. I've worked at a few other companies, so by no means was this my first job out of college. In addition, I've had more than a few managers (some great, some not so great), so I think it was fair to say that I had a relatively wide scale on which to judge upon. Management - HR brags about "training" and ensuring that all managers (Especially middle managers, perhaps the MOST important), have the support they need. Ironically, many of the managers there are just the ones that have been "lucky" enough to still be at the company - internal hires that took the managerial route because it seemed like the next best thing. It should be noted that just because you CAN be a manager, doesn't mean you should be! A handful of emotionally unintelligent, micro-managing, and insecure "leaders". Not to mention that when it comes to leadership (and really just anyone in a management position), everyone does their best to remain the CEO's "favorite". Truthfully from the outside (and bottom of the food chain, seeing as the CEO is basically a dictator), it's comical and pathetic to watch. One of Rokt's core values is "Smart with Humility" - lol are you kidding me? The number of egos that get past the door - it's actually mindblowing. Culture - a JOKE (and a half). I can't believe I was forced to succumb to adult high-school. If you're not part of the clique, AKA, a group of individuals that think they're way cooler than they actually are (big fish in a small pond), then you're an outsider. Truthfully, I had no desire to be a part of this because it was hard to hear & watch all the backstabbing and manipulative gossip that spread across the org. Lastly, the favoritism is sickening. Again, if you're in with the in-crowd, you're probably fine, but anyone else standing up for themselves, well...you might be in for a rude awakening. Rokt also underpays and overworks their employees. Their "generous" PTO policy is not generous at all - you accrue and start at 0, while accruing 1 day per month (so you do the math). If all of this sounds great to you, then awesome - you might kill it here. But for the rest - don't believe the PR! This place is TOXIC.

Thank you for your feedback. This doesn’t sound like the Rokt we know and love, so we are quite surprised to hear about your experience. Our most recent employee survey showed that over 85% of our people managers received very high management effectiveness ratings from their respective teams. In addition, our internal surveys tell us 90% of our Rokt’stars would recommend Rokt as a great place to work. A lot of the other data in your post is also factually incorrect - for example our paid time off policies are not 1 day per month as you state but rather: -Standard PTO is 20 days a year in addition we also provide 5 bonus days (we call these High 5 days) for everyone - so standard PTO is 25 days a year - which is 2.1 days per month. This is in addition to public holidays. -PTO is able to go into 5 negative days, so accrual is never an issue. -We also provide up to 12 weeks paid time off for sabbatical leave. -We also provide separate paid leave buckets for sick leave, parental leave (16 weeks paid time off), community leave and bereavement leave. Our generous benefits are one of the reasons that Rokt was recently named one of Built in NYC’s Best Places to Work: https://rokt.com/resources_post/rokt-named-one-of-built-in-nycs-best-places-to-work/

Pros

The core product is really exceptional, but the product gives rise to a lot of the same problems of any oil state. Because we don't need to innovate, we try a lot of whimsical ideas from our CEO or CCO but nothing ends up launching that moves the needle because nothing has buy-in from all levels of the full product and engineering org.

Cons

Autocratic leadership. Arbitrary hiring and firing decisions. Idiotic career ladder changes that act like they are trying to hire in the 2009 job market and not the current one. No remote work flexibility. The equity compensation for those hired during the depths of the pandemic, when valuations were low, is really good, but that makes it so that finding new talent at the current valuation given the very low cash salary bands and in-office requirements has led to a significant degradation of talent over the last 6 months.

Headless Chicken Culture

Pros

- compensation package - benefits

Cons

Rokt is one of the companies that cares not to groom or develop it's employees. There is no formal onboarding process for most roles with zero mentorship or partnership with your manager. Essentially sink or swim from day 1. If you figure it out, perfect..if not you will be gone in less than a year. Your deliverables will forever be a cloudy haze of moving goalposts buttressed by the fact you receive no guidance from your Manager, or guidance that will reflect the ever changing goal post. One week you will be "on point", the following week you will be incompetent. You will never hear "good job" at this company and will be verbally and publicly compared to peers by managers. It is not a growth culture. There are no standardized method of how things should be done with reports and peers, so for example "Yes, do more of this "thing", it is in alignment" swinging wildly to "why are you doing more of this "thing",it's not in alignment"....within a 10 day span.
