Pros

The Rolls-Royce Takover Target submitter hit it right. Training is great - they basically have a university with great classes and instructors. The benefits are pretty good. Starting salaries are competitive. They have an interesting product - if you are "into" jet engines. They have a great library and a museum.

Cons

Forget about getting a raise. They are continuing to cut benefits ( the company is bleeding cash - it costs R-R more $$ to make a jet engine than what they sell for). Their suppliers tell R-R what to do. They tell R-R to change their quality specifications (in the supplier's favor) or the supplier will raise their prices. Management beats the heck out of their "underlings" come performance review time (management sets expectations that can't be met - therefore, they have a reason to fire you - in case they want). And the owners, R-R U K, is just look only at the numbers R-R N/A is producing and not the whole picture of what is going on. Very difficult to advance or transfer positions. Cumbersome systems to work with.

Pros

Money...some of the best in Indiana Some of my co-workers have become my closest friends Really good work experience

Cons

Will work you to the bone and take complete advantage of any individual's motivation to succeed and progress. Have gone from an entry-level position to leading a team of six people (in 2 years) without even changing salary grades or receiving compensation. Expect you to be in your seat all day, every day or else the rumors will start flying that you're "not working." Expect you to work, work, work and make you feel as though it is such an inconvenience if you need to take personal time or medical leave. People hoard information because they think sharing means they might lose power over others. The current office spaces are absolutely disgusting with cockroaches and mice crawling all over the place. Never a 'thank you' for a job well done, can only point out when something goes wrong. Atmosphere is way to negative and stressful. Culture is not suitable for anyone who believes in work-life balance. If you're not an engineer, you have no future here.

Pros

Breadth of experience, interesting and usually engaging work, very smart and driven people, exciting global opportunities, respect for work/life balance when not in management.

Cons

A disheartening combination of old school union labor, the forced use of ineffective corporate processes, a crumbling facility that makes a circus tent look like the burj khalifa, and disconnected UK executive leadership. Wonderful company, but bad execution (in mount vernon).
