Pros

Company still growing so lots of upward mobility. Opportunity to travel, competitive pay, overall nice people and fun place to work. Works with local community for service projects and will allow you to Volunteer during work hours.

Cons

Female dominated assistants and buyers, yet male dominated as you move up the ranks. Has gotten better over the years, but still seems odd and unbalanced. Lots of young moms in the mix who feel they can't get ahead because a male counterpart will get management's approval first. Sometimes promotions based on a subjective factors & not performance.

Pros

My staff was great. The other store managers were great and we helped each other to be successful.

Cons

When I first started ross was awesome! I loved it. Then slowly it seemed that they forgot that to be successful uou need to invest in your teams. Upper management started to have unrealistic expectations of stores. I can say this as someone who sets their own bar very high and was a GRS winner. Then upper management started to have a lot of turnover. A lot! That's when the wheels fell off. No one knows what direction this company is going in, but they will spin a good story to keep the store managers on board. I left. So, the first 6 years were awesome. Only 1 new zone director came aboard when one took a position in another state. The last two years my district manager quit, my zone manager quit, 1 ALPM quit ( of the 3 in our state, and they did not hire a replacement) so the remaining 2 split his workload in addition to their own. Then another District manager quit (in our state, that only had 3 DM's). I quit. Then the CEO quits. What conclusions can you draw from this? There is no stability in this company, even tho they will give you a press release saying how great the company is doing. They are cutting back everywhere in a desperate attempt to remain profitable. Soon there is no where to cut, then what?
