Unique and rewarding workplace

Pros

You get to work with wonderful colleagues and volunteers with diverse international living and service backgrounds. The workplace culture has been steadily improving over the last two decades, and there are many opportunities for advancement if you come into the organization in an entry-level role.

Cons

Managerial support of professional development and work-life balance varies greatly from team to team. While some teams have incredibly supportive and nurturing leaders who truly invest in their direct reports' success, there are still a few teams that suffer from high turnover and low efficiency, which after several years of observation, I mostly credit to a few ineffective managers.

Pros

Rotarian's are extremely passionate about the mission and amazing to work with to achieve their philanthropic goals. As a remotely based employee there is a solid working relationship with staff in Evanston, Illinois. There is a thorough on boarding process in place.

Pros

Great location in Evanston, good pay and excellent benefits, especially for a non-profit. It's fulfilling to know you are working as a small part of the bigger picture. They also highly encourage professional development in their employees and once they have you, it seems they try to promote from within and keep you.

Cons

Somewhat high turn over rate in certain areas/departments. Also male dominated and patriarchal, an historical Rotary problem, and a lot of red tape even for simple tasks. Political internal squabbles at times; sometimes shortsightedness gets in the way and causes things to move even more slowly.
