Pros

Great location in Evanston, good pay and excellent benefits, especially for a non-profit. It's fulfilling to know you are working as a small part of the bigger picture. They also highly encourage professional development in their employees and once they have you, it seems they try to promote from within and keep you.

Cons

Somewhat high turn over rate in certain areas/departments. Also male dominated and patriarchal, an historical Rotary problem, and a lot of red tape even for simple tasks. Political internal squabbles at times; sometimes shortsightedness gets in the way and causes things to move even more slowly.

Pros

Excellent Mission Wonderful coworkers Wonderful Rotarians Fulfilling work

Cons

A lot of red-tape and during my time there Rotary scaled back its' telecommuting program, which was a deal breaker for me. Otherwise I would still be there.

Pros

Premier international service organization leveraging acquaintanceship and friendship to do good in the world. Staff are imbued with a sense of mission. Staff were caring and went the extra mile. Volunteers with few exceptions are mission-driven international professionals who appreciate staff. Excellent benefits. Good international experience.

Cons

Ossified command and control management style. Very bureaucratic. Not open to new ideas, very risk averse, and personalistic. Not many admin positions, so non-managers waste time with the minutiae. Management is aware of the silo problem but has done little to address it. Very few defined career paths. Some areas are amazingly competent, but others are not.
