Bowling Mechanic

Pros

Fun job with lots of room to learn (if you teach yourself). Interesting machinery and games to work on. Friendly regular customers

Cons

"No experience needed" on their job description leads to you waiting for training you will never receive. It is up to the employee to magically figure out how to fix these complicated bowling pin mechanisms and arcade cabinets. The arcade games are filled with dust since they are so horribly maintained. None of the mechanics know how to properly do their jobs due to the lack of training. If there is a serious problem with a machine, they call in a Japanese mechanic to fix it, instead of training local mechanics how. Loud work environment with the same 10 songs blaring on repeat through Pandora off of the laptop behind the front counter. Drunk customers treat you like they own you. Other customers get irate if games go down. Constantly asked "do you work here?" since the mechanic uniforms don't have the company's name on them. Toxic managers and employees talk about people behind their backs and bully people to quitting by lowering their hours instead of just firing them. Managers do not care if you quit or not, yet they struggle hiring replacements if you do. They would rather punish with write-ups than coach employees properly to improve work ethic. Mechanics are treated like glorified janitors. Instead of maintaining games and pinsetters, the managers would rather have you walking around picking up trash and dishes, which causes machines to break down since they are not being maintained and cleaned. The managers try to have people from the front register fix the bowling machines instead of calling mechanics to do it.

Thank you for your feedback! We are glad that you've had fun working at Round 1. We are sorry to hear about your poor experience with the managers. We appreciate all the hard work you put in learning things independently, and know that you have brought a positive impact to the store!

Poor appreciation for skill

Pros

Fun environment, good co workers, and easy to feel like you contributed.

Cons

Very poor compensation for mechanic positions. Very low ceiling for vertical progress unless changing location. We have lost three talented mechanics because the company cares more about keeping costs low than keeping good people.

Thank you for your feedback! We are glad to hear that you had a fun team and that your contributions were recognized. It is unfortunate to hear that three of your teammates left so early, but we are proud to see many of our entry-level mechanics growing into senior positions. Your advice about our expansion will be taken into consideration!
