Pros

Worked for a professor in the social science department where I had previously earned a research doctorate. Assisted him and his colleagues with data analysis and manuscript preparation for an ongoing research project. I was treated respectfully as a collaborator, by being invited frequently to share ideas and opinions about the problems we were trying to solve, and by being taken seriously when I did. I was also treated fairly in receiving publication credit commensurate with my contributions, which helped me find subsequent employment after the project ended.

Cons

Physical and technical environments needed a bit of upgrading: the building was 1970s vintage and the computing resources were early 2000s vintage.

Pros

Co-workers and supervisors are mostly friendly. You get the ability to learn more IT skills and rise to a supervisor position if you would like. It's decent pay for little work. This is probably one of the best paying job you can find as a student on campus.

Cons

Some co-workers can be especially lazy and you may have to pick up the slack or risk being called out. It can also be annoying when they are consistently late for their shifts.
