Pros
I’m drawn to building companies and this one is perfect if you’re drawn to a challenge. It will not be a good fit if you thrive in larger organizations with very well-defined structure and predictability. The team that is here is incredibly hard working and amazingly talented. They come from different industries which contributes a lot of perspectives that can be difficult to align, but we get there. It hasn’t been without challenges as the company definitely over-hired a few years back which led to some hires that were bad fits, ego clashes, communication issues and eventual cuts last year. The new people that have joined or promoted into leadership in the last year have been great. The vision and roadmap is clearer than ever and the work, while relatively high pressure, is more controlled and better managed than in the past. Everyone is remote and the company does a great job letting people create a schedule that works for them. I have teammates who are basically nomads, but they get their stuff done and show up for key calls/meetings and no one cares how they do it. It’s impressive how dedicated the company is to the remote work culture - especially as other companies start the return to work movement. Benefits are very good. Full healthcare, 401K matching, stipend for home office, charitable matching…it’s actually better than I’ve had anywhere else. There is still a lot of building to do at this imperfect company, but the people, benefits, leadership, flexibility and roadmap make it worth the grind.
Cons
It’s still small with some big challenges. Trying to do to much at once, keeping different teams connected, priorities changing. Fully remote team is great if it fits you - would be nice to get together once in a while in person.
