Pros

Great management system. Awesome opportunity for someone who is interested in teaching or want to make a difference in the education system. I had a great team, very supportive and flexible.

Cons

Be expected to be a teacher even though the model of SAGA is tutoring. Curriculum alignment was off track meaning you will be teaching students topics teachers have not yet covered. The pay is not that great. If you have bills, and big responsibilities you will definitely need a second job. If you exit the program early despite having the minimum required hours, you will not receive the Segal Educational Award. Please read all contracts. That’s the mistake I made, I had to leave 3 weeks early due to another position training. I thought as long I met the minimum hours requirements is should be good but no. Only 3 weeks left and not even receiving 15% of the award. It was a big decision to make but the program was ending and I couldn’t leave this opportunity go because of SAGA.

Pros

Recently Saga performed a compensation analysis and increased salaries accordingly. I think compensation is at a far place right now.

Cons

As an organization, Saga lacks transparency. The number of hours expected to work in a week far exceed 40 hours and no overtime is offered. Little room for advancement. Poor training during the summer and throughout the year. Executive leadership is far removed from programming staff. Organization very vertically aligned, only point of contact is direct supervisor most of the time. Many Fellows (math tutors) report being mislead about responsibilities of position.
