Saga Needs to do Better

Pros

The students you work with are amazing. One of the reasons why I am staying is the impact I have with the young people. Second best thing, is the cohort. Having great co-workers can lighten the stress. Furthermore, this job is great for someone who needs a gap year.

Cons

The site directors are what makes or breaks the type of experience you want to have. I did not have a good site director, and the amount of work fellows had to do was absurd. The workload should not be that hefty, for the amount of money fellow are being paid. The expectation of a site director compared to a fellow is totally on a different pedestal. Site Directors can wear jeans and sneakers while fellows always have to wear professional top and bottom.

Thank you for serving with Saga Education and for sharing your experience. We are happy to hear that you were able to develop meaningful relationships with your colleagues and the students at your school. That being said, we are disappointed to hear that you did not have as positive of a relationship with your Site Director. Over the past few months, our recruitment team has redeveloped our selection process to ensure that we’re hiring and retaining top talent at all levels of the organization.

Pros

Flexible Paid Time off (Vacation Time) but do not expect to be able to use it. Expect to burn out easily, could be a pro for some who like to be extremely busy at all times

Cons

Salaries are not competitive, very low compared to the market rates of similar organizations Health Insurance is very expensive Lack of Recognition from leadership Non existent work/life balance, still required to work during your scheduled time off, vacations and after hours. No growth opportunities, Non supportive executive leadership Lack of transparency Job descriptions do not match the job requirements Lack of job security

Pros

Really amazing co-workers and amazing students you get to meet!

Cons

Overworked, little pay, the organization is very top-down, dismissive when concerns are brought up, and tends to prioritize the image of the organization than the needs of the students and workers
