Pros

Salary and benefit package good . Some good people to work with. Was a better company when founder was still alive.

Cons

Micromanage employees opinion doesn't matter. Treated poorly. Long hours short staffed. When founder was alive the employees mattered now it only about production and poor quality product doesn't seem to matter.

Pros

If you want to experience a job where you are multifunctional, want to learn to operate under ambiguity and be close to see how a company goes to transform into a truly global company, this is the place for you. A lot of new things happening in terms of brand building activities.

Cons

After two years of complete transformation, still a lot of ambiguity and moving pieces. All top management has been changed with high caliber talent from outside which is has advantages, but essence and values of what made SCJ special sometimes hard to find or completely lost. People more worried about "looking good" in front of the new bosses rather than really thinking what is best for the business and the teams. Many decisions taken without proper education and not considering the impact on business and people. Location-- Ive seen dozens of young employees who tried to give it a chance to commute from Chicago... till now seems an unsustainable situation. Racine is good (not great) location to live if you are a young, calm couple... but other than that, location continues to be a great issue to attract talent.

Thanks for your review. It’s helpful to hear the feedback of long-term SCJ people, to see what you think is working or not. It’s true that there has been a lot of change, and we’re glad you recognize that a lot of that is a pro, leading to globalization and brand growth. But we also always want SCJ to stand out for its values, and we’re sorry to hear you don’t think those are on display. We’ll consider your feedback closely.

Pros

Nice benefits such as 401k, profit sharing and company shut down over the Christmas holidays. Solid, well known brands.... but brand equity and consumer loyalty are beginning to erode.

Cons

Culture change in last few years with new, outside senior management coming on board. The private company feel and the value SCJ once placed with their employees has gone away. The company is being managed more like a public company with profit being the key driver. 'Transformation' in recent years has reduced workforce thus creating poor morale with many people. Employees are expected to do more with less people and less resources. Many functions / departments have been outsourced resulting in poorer results versus when they were managed directly by SCJ employees.
