Pros

Friendly and knowledgeable coworkers, great entry-level position for recent graduates, likes to promote from within, plenty of opportunities for training and knowledge to advance within the company...

Cons

...but this is definitely not a place to start a career, unless you ultimately want to be in commission based sales. Limited opportunities for salary-based advancement. Meager raises on a yearly basis. VERY HIGH turnover rate, constantly hiring new inside sales reps to keep up with the promotion/attrition. Many Inside Sales Reps remain in their positions for many years. Within the last few years, the company has split into two main factions, the existing Enterprise sales and the newer Corporate/SMB sales. Enterprise continues to be based in Piscataway (and soon, Somerset), while Corporate is based out of Austin, TX with satellite offices throughout the US & Canada. The culture between the two divisions could not be more disparate and it is causing tension between the two.

Pros

Excellent health benefits, most of the workers are young and have a sense of camaraderie with each other, micro management usually doesn't happen...you're mostly left on your own to make sure your work gets done,

Cons

Pay is TERRIBLE here. Despite what HR tells new workers, their compensation is in no way "competitive." Most employees live in NJ or NYC, where the cost of living is obscene. SHI has refused to adjust to these pressures. Promotions are a joke here. Oftentimes people will be offered LESS than what they were making before. Despite HR priding SHI on "career advancement" that does not happen much here anymore. More and more people are being locked into their current position, byt they're afraid to quit because of the current state of the economy. Morale is in the toilet, across all departments. Most of the root causes of this can be traced back to our CEO's decision to open up a proxy office in Austin that would strictly handle SMB business. That's all fine and good, but in doing so she brought in people from other companies to run the business and all of them were offered obscene starting packages, while the people who have stayed at the "legacy" SHI have seen nothing but stagnant wages. Inside sales reps in Austin are offered 3 times the starting base pay of inside reps in NJ. All of our perks (holiday bonuses, a holiday party) were killed off to compensate for this, but the Austin office enjoys more perks and bonuses, including a beer cart in the office (100% true). Training is usually pretty bad. No one coming into inside sales has any technical experience....almost 100% of the time they are poorly qualified Liberal Arts graduates who cannot find other work. You're mostly left to figure it out on your own. This is not to say that they cannot succeed, but HR increasingly is hiring more and more unqualified candidates with visibly poor work ethics.

Sales depend on suppliers for help

Pros

Good benefits, OK salary, good entry company.

Cons

Will not invest in technical people to help sales, have to use the product supplier for everything. No orientation training or information, pretty much wing it until you make a mistake, then learn. Nobody know anybody else, don't give much of a chance when trying to build book.
