Pros
SLAC is a great national lab to work at. It's a very cooperative and collegial environment with very little internal political squabbling. Employees receive full Stanford staff benefits, making the total compensation package attractive if salary is not of primary concern.
Cons
Considering it's in the heart of Silicon Valley, a government lab just can't offer a competitive salary such that employees can afford to live within a reasonable distance of the job site. The benefits make up for this somewhat, but in terms of take-home pay, you're going to be underpaid for your skill level with respect to comparable jobs in the area.
