Pros

It is a research facility that attracts creative engineers and scientists from around the world. There is always something new to learn and many people are eager to share their insights. The scientists create a collaborative environment both within the SLAC lab and with other labs.

Cons

The area has very expensive housing. Since this is a DOE government subcontractor position with Stanford, salaries are far from matching Google, Facebook, Microsoft, etc driving more SLAC employees hired within the last 10 years to commute longer distances to work.

Tons of room for growth at SLAC. Projects everywhere, and pretty much a free reign. Access to the Stanford facilities and benefits.

Cons

Management structure is too loose. Engineering careers are not considered as important as science.
