Pros

Being employed by a large company.

Cons

1) If you are into technical stuff, your path for advancement is contingent on a system which, in my opinion, is there only to make you stop wishing to get promoted and consequently get paid more. Every 5 years you can write about what you achieved which will be reviewed by some unknown people on the other side of the globe who will say whether you deserve it. Local people who know your work the best have no say. They are simply irrelevant. It doesn't matter how many years of experience you have and how good you are and how recognized you are outside of the company, inside you are nobody. So, it doesn't matter how good of a work you have been putting in and how local people value your work and depend on it, you are nothing to the company. Local people simply cannot promote you. 2) Watch what you say and to whom. This place is extremely politically correct. You can't joke ever because someone somewhere will find something offensive and report you. Then, you'll be investigated and notified by HR. 3) Every month you have to come up with some observations which you have to enter into a local report system. These are observations regarding safety. There are minimum numbers for each department. If you work in an office, hardly anything happens that involves safety, and yet, it's irrelevant. You have to put in those observations. So, people simply invent events to have something to put in. And if these observations are not satisfactory to reviewers, meaning they don't look genuine, you'll be notified and slapped over wrist. Remember 1984 book. That's how you feel at this place.

Pros

Flexible work schedule, safety-minded, clean working environment, climate control.

Cons

It has outdated equipment; bonuses are rare and based on the entire company's performance, small raises, and no encouragement to move up the company ladder. There is lots of gossip and snakes on the grass. Direct management has its hands tied behind its back when it comes to making updates or changes in procedures or just making the job easier. You are hired as a contract-based worker and not hired directly by the company. It can take 4 months up to a year and a half before they decide to hire you or not. During that time, you don't get any holiday, sick, vacation, or personal time off. Nor will you receive any benefits until they decide to hire you.
