Pros

SLEA is home to a great group of speech therapists, some of whom specialize in certain areas (e.g., Voice, AAC, Language). Collaboration is always encouraged. SLEA offer CEUS free of cost to employees when able.

Cons

As with all jobs, you have to advocate for yourself in regards to maintaining a work life balance.

Pros

The benefits at this company are amazing! Remote or hybrid schedules, PTO, 401k, ESOP, medical/dental/vision, CEU/materials stipend, ASHA dues reimbursement, and probably more than I'm forgetting.

Cons

Many times the management and administrators will not be forthcoming with benefits, and you have to know about it and reach out to them to ask in order to be eligible and receive some benefits. They are very stingy with pay/compensation, and it is all 100% based on your number of billable hours. They like to say that they are supportive and care about your work as a therapist and quality of care, but at the end of the day it all comes down to the bottom line of "how much money are you making for us." They will pack your schedule full as a result and the whole company culture has horrible work-life balance. Directors emailing you at 10 o'clock at night when you're trying to relax and de-stress from a full day. So many inconsistencies across the board in regards to support, answering clinical questions, and even something as simple as responding to emails. In addition, the scheduler is extremely rude and unhelpful, both to clients and to therapists. Many of my clients have complained how horrible she was to them, which makes it hard as the therapist to make a good impression on the family so they can trust SLEA with their care.
