      Awesome work, atrocious management

      Pros

      Very interesting work, lots of opportunities to learn and develop as an analyst. Many opportunities to move between departments and progress. Flexible hours and some good extra benefits like Costco membership, discounts, cycle to work scheme, cheap health and death cover,etc.

      Cons

      The location is in the middle of nowhere; the salaries are extremely low; the health and safety is extremely poor; the staff are not motivated to do even the smallest of tasks and are not controlled or micromanaged at all; the quality is existing only when it comes to UKAS accredited tests; the work is spread unequally; the employees are rewarded for their work only when they threaten to leave; the equipment is old and unreliable; the management knows about all of the above and is in complete denial.

      Thank you for taking the time to leave a review. It is great to see that you value the company benefits that you receive and the opportunities for development within your role. We are sorry to see that you feel there are some negatives around your employment. Our Burton site is on a business park, but it is on bus routes for Burton, Derby and Swadlincote and offers plenty of free, on-site parking. The site also provides an onsite café and rest areas for breaks. Our salaries are bench-marked against industry, and are in line with our competitors. All of our employees receive Health and Safety training at induction, along with regular updates and training via comm cell. Health, Safety and Quality is at the heart of SOCOTEC and is a core value discussed during appraisal, one to one reviews as well as via the Health and Safety stand down day, and HSE reporting.

      'Fast paced' or 'manic' - your choice

      Pros

      Lots of varying projects to get involved in. Many senior staff that have a lot of knowledge and can be very supportive opportunity to work with team members in other offices, and collaborate with other teams. Have seen teams really come together when people need them. There 'may' be expansion in the team (heard it before)

      Cons

      Some middle and senior management don't recognise the stresses they put on junior staff. luck of the draw with line managers - some are good, some can be bad (like any job) can be sent to work on sites across the country with short notice (can be a positive if you enjoy that). Over the years I've been there, I've heard and seen some negative behaviours. e.g. making people work while really ill, and managers taking it personally when people move onto pastures new.
