Pros

I think working at srp is a great place and a great work environment. SRP's contact center supports a hybrid work environment. Upon completion of training, you will be scheduled to work 2 days per week in the office (Tempe or Queen Creek location) and the remaining scheduled days will be worked from home. The training and transition period is approximately 12-14 weeks long. The first 7 weeks will be remote classroom training. SRP will provide all equipment needed to participate in training from home. You are required to supply a reliable internet connection and a quiet, distraction free place in your home to work. While training is done remotely, you must reside in the Phoenix metro area as there will be occasions where you are required to report to one of our local facilities. Training will be held Monday-Friday 8:00am-4:30pm. However, our contact center operates 24-hours a day, 7 days a week. Upon completion of training and transition, you must be available to work any schedule - including weekends and holidays. Both 8- and 10-hour a day shift options are available after training and transition and new hires typically receive a schedule with a start time of 10:00am or later. Schedules are re-evaluated every 6 months and awarded based on performance.

Cons

The work load can be aggressive at times and sometimes you’re dealing with very unhappy customers but that’s typical being at any customer service jobs.

Dysfunctional "leadership" will go unchecked and unchallenged

Pros

SRP offers good pay (thanks to the community rate payers), great benefits and there are many good people throughout SRP.

Cons

Not all departments at SRP have the same quality of leadership. It all depends on the Director. SRP believes in what is referred to as, "Creative Management". SR. Directors allow and encourage Directors to manage their own group as they see fit. Unfortunately, political agendas are the driving force at SRP. Because of this, many in leadership roles who should NOT have been promoted or should be removed go unchecked and unchallenged. Things such as, who you are related to, golf with or conform to, will get you farther than qualifications, hard work, or good character ever will. This makes SRP a breeding ground for narcissistic and poor quality leadership. Consider the aforementioned, if you are contemplating an employment opportunity in the Substation Design, Construction & Maintenance (SDC&M) department at SRP. The recently (as of this year) promoted Management has adopted the outdated, and oppressive "leadership" style of the Director... lacking substance, vision and most obvious, integrity. Not all Directors at SRP are poor leaders. There are a some good ones and even beloved ones. It's just unfortunate that the bad ones will be endured until opted retirement, no matter how dysfunctional they are.

Pros

The benefits, specifically health insurance, are amazing and they still offer a pension plan. The company is extremely involved in the community which makes me proud to say I work there. Most departments are family friendly

Cons

It is impossible to change anything because everyone is so set in their ways. As a new employee, your drive and creativity can quickly be crushed. In addition, they won't fire anyone....which means there is a ton of dead weight and those with good work ethic are tasked with picking up the slack. In some organizations, promotion is based on who you know and not what you know.
