Pros

Flexibility, vacations, holiday pay, unionized,

Cons

Serious lack of communication. Manager never communicates that someone has called in sick, until that person doesn't show up and we are left wondering wtf? Manager has to be in control of everything, no point in having front end managers when the manager flips out on you in the front end, in front of everyone (customers too) for giving someone their break. Getting breaks is like pulling teeth, fear of getting yelled at, retaliation etc. Extreme pressure and threats to fulfill donation quotas, paperwork in the checkstand. Having to WRITE DOWN NAMES OF RANDOM CUSTOMERS on a paper to turn in at the end of the day, yeah customers LOVE seeing that!

Pros

If you've been around a while... you are more than likely making descent to good money. Benefits use to be phenominal and now are definitely descent. My sick/vacation time is good to great. Many people working have degrees in other areas yet stay because they have achieved a salary that exceeds what they went to school for.

Cons

Others have mentioned: Upper management don't practice what they preach when managing. More time and concern is in trying to upsell a customer rather than true customer service. Numbers in any category have been driven to the extent of Quartiles. If you are in the 4th quartile, you are a piece of @#$%. If you can't turn a number around and get out of that bottom quartile, then you have the constant threat of disciplinary action and possibility of losing your job. No true recognition of being a hard worker, comes from upper management. Too many good managers and good hard working people are going out on stress leave. "Achieving Management Excellence" is only taught at store level to department heads and Supervisors. Upper management does not excercise the management style.
