Horrible Culture and Dysfunctional Leadership

Pay attention to the negative reviews - They are telling the truth about the 'true' culture and leadership of Sage. The fake positive reviews are being driven by the company trying to improve their Glassdoor ratings compared to their competitors, rather than fixing the root causes of the horrible culture and dysfunctional leadership. There's no true strategy for the company. It's like throwing spaghetti against a wall to see which strategy will work in each of the regions. They are in financial trouble now because they don't know how to properly manage their revenue and expenses, so they overspend without ensuring they have enough money to cover costs. In desperation with their stock price plummeting to the lowest it's ever been in the history's company, they are firing as many as people as they can to make sure the end of the year financial goals are met in September. They don't care about employees and use the performance management process to put as many people on Performance Improvement Plans to eventually fire them. This happens frequently throughout the year. The culture is heartless and very stressful with many employees going on medical leave (if they don't leave first) because of the toxic culture. It's a poisonous company - Seriously, stay away!!!

Pros

The people in the office were what made coming in every day worth it. I had a good work/life balance as well. This will obviously depend on what team/department you end up with. I was fortunate to be grouped with a smart and passionate team during my time here. The benefits were pretty substantial at the start, however, it seems that each year something new is reduced to save costs.

Cons

Where do I even begin? As mentioned in many of the previous reviews, high instability exists especially at the top levels of management. The rotating chair of executives means that the strategic initiatives and overall direction will probably be subject to change indefinitely. This isn't a one-oft occurrence but a repeating cycle that happens like clockwork, seemingly every three to four years or so. The company is trying to reinvent itself as a SaaS provider when really, they are merely a holding company, with outdated and overpriced products slowly losing more and more market share. "Organic growth" is a pipe dream and the company has problems attracting and retaining the talent needed to move forward. Employee morale and channel partner satisfaction is extremely low across the board. It seems this current batch of leaders are content in appearing shiny to the stockholders without caring about actual results. And this is just the tip of the iceberg, unfortunately.

Great People, Horrible Company

Pros

The people. Talent Acquisition does a great job in recruiting talented, innovative and great people. The Midtown Office is nice.

Cons

The powers that be believe that people are indispensable. They have a forced distribution rating system and get rid of people who are doing the work of multiple people. Bonuses have not been paid in over two years. Take a look at the company’s numbers, bonuses won’t be paid out again this year. Colleagues are getting terminated left and right, so that the company can cut costs, instead of doing the right thing and having real layoffs...but then that would mean that they would have to pay severances, and they don’t want to do that. And that would also be admitting that they aren’t doing as well, as they want to appear. Save yourself the heartache and just avoid this place.
