Toxic Work Environment

Pros

Flexible work schedule Mostly great students

Cons

SLU is the most toxic place I've ever worked. The administration from the president down to the deans is problematic. They all say we're doing great work, but we're not. The university's med school is the ONLY med school in the country to be on probation, but the emails from administration assure us that "we're doing great work." This seems to be my experience in my area. People aren't qualified, there is favoritism, people are hired without searches, the pay is extremely low, there are gender inequities in salary, and we haven't had a raise in years. They just cut 120 staff positions and are gearing up to cut a significant number of faculty. On top of that, it seems everyone I know is job searching. Get out if you can.

Pros

Tution reimbursement is the only pro.

Cons

No room for advancement. It's more of who you know in order to grow within the company. Doesn't value employees at all. Very hard to get a fair increase in a raise. Do not follow the Jesuit values.

Pros

The culture of SLU fosters an atmosphere and people passionate about their work in and for communities. It's been by far one of the best places I've ever worked.

Cons

You have to pay to park at work...which is a ridiculous. Depending on the department, few opportunities to advance internally. Due to current challenges in higher education, there are frequent hiring and raise freezes, which sets employees years behind in their earning potential.
