Hard Work tons of Pressure

Pros

They talk a good talk. Orientation is good. They sell it well. It's a pretty place.

Cons

You work tons of hours because the hotel is always short staffed. Managers are constantly testing you for Five stars. They look for raters and then put you under a lot of pressure to be perfect. It's like they are trying to catch me doing something wrong. My manager is always stressed out. It's not worth the pay. I have seen so many people quit because they can get paid better somewhere else and not be constantly corrected and badgered for for using the wrong word. This company needs to care more about their employees than the five star. Oh and on top of that you have to pay to eat cold bad food. The horses in the barn eat better than the workers.

Salamander Collection Response

I am sorry for your concerns about your employment at Salamander. We are a new resort (only open in the last 5 years), and not many people in the area know about our property. It is improving, but yes, we are short staffed at times but this will improve in time. In the coming years we will find staff internationally to address our seasonal staffing challenges. The "testing" of the staff you refer to is a common practice in all 5 Star hotels, and it is the most important aspect of training in luxury hotels. The culture in luxury hotels is more intense and focused on perfection. Perhaps this kind of environment is not for you. Our turnover is no different than other hotels/resorts, and we have many long term employees who have grown from hourly positions to manager level positions. Salamander pays well, and develops its employees. We care a lot about our employees. We hold regular events throughout the year and pay over $1000 per month for our employees to eat in the restaurants and visit the spa for free (Salamander Star Buck program). Activities held at our resort: Decorate the door competition Pumpkin carving contest Ugly sweater Salamander Star Bucks lunch (monthly) Holiday party Unifocus (comment card) top winners luncheon $1000 winner each year for Core Value program Summer party/special luncheon Wellness fair Discounted hotel stays at any one of our properties We are adding to this list every year, to enhance the experience at Salamander Resort & Spa.

Pros

Pay is good, at least for drivers

Cons

There is no management, only bossing. Any moron can be a boss (and many are) but it takes work and empathy to manage -- No one at Henderson understands that. Part-time employees, although we work as hard as full-timers, are treated like the red-headed stepchild, receiving no PTO, no toll bridge help and being left off the schedule completely, since the company, having made money hand over fist during the summer season, apparently doesn't believe in loyalty, although it demands it. Horrible place to work, other than the money. Horrible management. Horrible treatment of part-timers. They'll probably fire me for telling the truth, but it's no loss to someone who wants to be treated as a valuable adult.
