Pros

Great products, great people and Sr. Management was top notch (in the past)

Cons

Sr. Management went down hill in late 2007 through present time. Top level people don't know what they are doing, constantly changing course. Too many conference calls with nothing new to say. Everyone working at the headquarters in an officer of the company without ever doing anything to earn it. To many layers of management, in sales you have one manager for every three sales reps and on top of that you have a region head overseeing 2-3 managers (big waste of money).

Pros

They do have a good benefits package. Every department I worked in recognized good job performance and rewarded it accordingly.

Cons

The company went through tremendous change with a lot of downsizing over the last couple of years. Changes aren't always effectively communicated by upper management.

Pros

Sallie Mae really cares about employee well being. They offer good work/life balance as well as tuition reimbursement and a free onsite gym and an ala cart cafeteria.

Cons

The work at Sallie Mae, as well as other comparable companies in the lending business, tends to be boring and monotonous.
