Good Learning Experience

Pros

Sandis is a great place to start your civil engineering career. There are a vast array of projects that I have worked on and have had many chances to test out and develop my engineering skills. It has been a great learning experience. They offer incentives and support for engineers looking to take their PE exam. Most of the engineers are fairly young and don't have a lot of experience, but that seems to promote more of a team atmosphere where we can all learn from each other. Brown bag presentations are organized to educate on various civil engineering topics.

Cons

The workload can be overwhelming at times. It is common for engineers to work long hours on projects. Some of the upper management can be intimidating to approach, but are usually willing to help and answer questions.

Opportunity to gain experience

Pros

Sandis is a good place to gain experience in a multitude of diverse projects ranging from public projects to private projects. Engineers are knowledgeable, experienced and ready to give a helping hand. As a design engineer there are opportunities to work on every aspect of land development and become proficient at every aspect design.

Cons

The work load at times can become overwhelming with projects lining up on the same deadlines and clients pushing their project. The pay/compensation at Sandis compared to industry standard is lower. Money can be made up with overtime which depends on project budgets and end of the year bonus.

Pros

Paid ok but benefits was worst I ever had. High deductible insurance but with HSA offsetting somewhat. Weekly team meetings were sometimes interesting.

Cons

Culture of intimidation created by upper level and mid level management leads to unnecessary stresses added to the already overwhelming amount of work assigned and expected to be done under budget. Impossible to really succeed
