Pros

Working at Sanmina-SCI is a good introduction to global electronics manufacturing, but that doesn't mean the same couldn't be had at FLEX, CLS, JBL, Hon Hai, or any OEM. I honestly can't think of any unique trait that makes Sanmina-SCI a better place to work than any other company in the same industry.

Cons

Piss-poor business management, tolerance of bad IT managers/directors, lack of vision, lack of follow-through of said vision, closed communication at the executive level, low salaries,

Pros

I am a disgruntled former employee, so please take this with a grain of salt. I worked for a different company that was acquired by SSCI. Things went down rapidly after that. There really isn't a good reason to work there unless you need a job.

Cons

See above disclaimer. I am a disgruntled former employee. Sanmina-SCI treats its employees as liabilities rather then assets. When things went south in 2001, they developed a termination policy of no severance or outplacement assistance. There were constant data calls from upper management, in some cases they same information in a different format. There was little or no communication between upper management and employees. In the IT departments, the CIO at the time didn't consider people to be worth anything unless they had an alphabet of certifications after their names. People would work long hours trying to keep things running and then were rewarded with an escort out the door. There were managers who should have been let go who had no one to manage. They were in "Make work" positions because they were part of the "In crowd". Others who actually knew what they were doing and tried to get things done were rewarded with the chance to "Seek other opportunities elsewhere." Anecdotally I was told that some departments in plants were suffering 100% turnover every 3 months. Not due to layoffs so much as new hires coming in and finding out just how bad things were.
