Virtually everything else. Internal politics are all that actually matters for advancement. Suck up to your boss? You'll be fine. Care about accuracy, reproducibility, scientific integrity, people owning their own mistakes, giving credit where it's do, etc. etc. Forget it. Work here only for the benefits and to pad your resume. Kiss up, tell whoever is above you whatever they want to hear, maybe publish a paper or two to burnish your brand and get the heck out of Dodge before the hive mind changes you.

Too much focus on operational issues and short-term cost savings. Sanofi's scientific management is overwhelmingly obsessed with bottom-line thinking and operational issues. Experienced employees with PhD degrees and record of scientific innovation are relegated to staring at spreadsheets and managing projects seemingly only focused on the near-term bottom line. When this happens, there is no risk taking and consequently, the company's pipeline is lackluster and has to be enhanced through acquisition.
