Pros

Benefits, ability to move up and discount were really great opportunities. They seemed to be a really great company for diversified staff from all backgrounds, and everyone was incredibly nice to work with (including managers most of the time!). Training program was fantastic, they got you orientated with two full days on a computer guided program, then had you slowly begin to work on the floor. I only worked there for 4 months and by the end of it I felt like I knew the routine well enough to finally feel adjusted into the role. Lots of cool merchandise you wouldn't find anywhere else. Has a really great image as a helper to non-profit and an eco-positive business Schedule was consistent, typically wouldn't make you work nights then mornings like most shift work.

Cons

Very uncleanly handling people's used things - those who deal with them often get masks but some of the stuff people give you is molding, has questionable stains or is just incredibly disgusting. Value Village accepts nearly everything! Horrible if you are OSD attendant and took in something completely broken for free. Goes straight to trash! Their prices have risen and are embarrassingly high Discount doesn't start until 5 days after something has been on the shelf! Almost no point in it sometimes! Men and women can be divided in a sexist way - men do the heavy lifting work and sorting in the warehouse, women are either cashiers or tagging clothes. Kind of annoyed me. Halloween and half-off Mondays are insanity. You can not get them off and customers are relentless.

Pros

Was enjoyable for first while, managers use to be decent people, discounts were good.

Cons

Company has poor work ethics, managers show little to no concern for employees, managers are rude, two faced and deceiving. No appreciation for good workers, only focus on the negative. No clear directions always contradictory and never clear. Managers do no talk to you or say even hi when you come in to pick up your pay cheques since you no longer work for the company they act as if your invisible or non-existent. Surprised management can hold their work positions due they poor attitudes and due to all their violations of company policies. Upper most in-store management had extremely poor people skills, no consideration for anyone other than other managers, is rude to customers on many occasions, looks down and talks down to "bottom of the chain" employees. I honestly could go on further however after reading this little bit of review they may finally open their eyes and this may make them become better people in general....who am I kidding horrible people will continue to be horrible people.
