Pros

* incredibly brilliant colleagues * fantastic networking opportunities due to so many kind, motivated, and brilliant people * impactful use cases and mission * the platform tooling is actually really nice to use if you're technically savvy * the logo is a big deal to have on your resume * marketing of every single aspect of the company, its products, services, and talent is impeccable, both inside and out * you do get to experience ownership over most of your outcomes * ML and platform eng get near infinite support and resources * the overall culture is very egalitarian * lots of fellow nerds, so lots of really fun and interest groups full of actively participatory folks * you'll rapidly come to understand decades of worst case scenarios in a very short period of time, which I think is important since knowing what doesn't work and why is paramount to creating solutions that do. * you get offered a lot of equity options for each role If you are ok with extreme rigor and chaos, and are ok with navigating that, it will likely be the kind of career booster that working for amazon or google in the 2000s was. Past that, expect to have your life sucked from you entirely until months after you quit. If you're ok with that, or don't have family/friends/kids/etc to take care of, then this job can be a nice shot in the career arm.

* hostile treatment of employees by senior management * unnecessarily high stress environment due to extreme operational inefficiencies - it's normal to work 80+ hour weeks * mid and senior level management are highly political instead of objective oriented and will often assign you night time work to follow your daytime work with * upper management is too disconnected from reality, doesn't take employee concerns or feedback seriously until it's too late and bigger problems crop up that they have to fight a fire over * teams have their managers change multiple times per year, so most ICs and
