      A disaster of a company

      Pros

      The mission is genuine and inspirational. Good work-life balance.

      Cons

      Puzzlingly bad management. Since most of the higher-ups are former teachers, promotion is based on seniority rather than ability and/or competence. Plagued with egos and power plays. Divisions are highly siloed and refuse to work together. The benefits keep getting worse.

      Pros

      Mission is helping kids read. Most working there are good people, strong heritage. Everyone knows the company and feels good about what they do.

      Cons

      Behind the times, long-term execs are "comfortable" with the status quo. Not willing to invest to stay relevant. Separate divisions do not work together and in many ways compete with each other. Very lean at the mid management level and below making most jobs extremely stressful. You can never finish your work so you take it home with you.

      Pros

      Go out for a drink with managers, keep praising them, don't challenge their stupid ideas, don't challenge their lack of experience or expertise and just say yes to everything and you should be good to work there.

      Cons

      from bottom to top everyone is corrupted. there is no career growth. there is no professional work environment. Not an ideal place to work. They only want to get the work done with the contractors so, they can maximize their cut.
