Pros

Worked here for over 4 years. Decent benefits, but even those got worse as time went on. Nice co-workers. Wonderful customers and products.

Cons

Nepotism, micromanagement, and unprofessionalism reign here. It is the most ridiculous work environment I have ever had the displeasure of working in. Management and floor supervisors are all close friends, yet none of them have any business managing people. None of them are educated or trained in management. High producers are transferred or fired at the drop of a hat because of a myriad of ridiculous excuses. Sales goals are often not released until AFTER the month has passed. HR is zero help and doesn't keep regular hours. (Plus the ONE HR person here is close personal friends with all of management and supervisors meaning the employee is NEVER right, even when following their employee handbook to the letter.) Employees are frequently harassed for using the restroom or getting up from their desks for any reason. So many shady dealings here, it's difficult to even list them all!

Pros

You leave with Scholastic's name on your resume. Somedays, you'll find yourself doing cool things.

Cons

Disrespectful management. A culture of prizing & celebrating superiors with no recognition of mid-level or entry-level workers. Dismal pay. Clearly not a company well trained on respectful workplace behavior as there was consistent abusive behavior. I saw my coworkers cry NUMEROUS times and that is, if you ask me, a sure fire sign of an unhealthy work environment and do remember, the environment is dictated by the person who heads the department. No opportunities for upward growth, no conversations on "career," was expected to work a job, serve a purpose and stay on as a contractor in hopes I would someday make it to "full-time, staff," rather than get a promotion or anything. My boss asked I lessen my vacation request which I respected, then she didn't get back to me to confirm my vacation for over a month - this is blatant disrespect. She spoke to me day in and day out but was unable to say yes to my request, to grant me any feeling of security, or recognize that I needed a break from that workplace.

Pros

-some of the people are nice to work with. -discounts on books. This company is great if you're looking to settle and not grow at all. The company will try and get the younger crowd by marketing the summers off...trust me the cons outweigh the pros.

Cons

-the company does not offer growth. -in general management and corporate is sketchy. - the work environment is not one of progress and team work; it's a toxic one. - they will put anyone in a seat that shows some sort of drive. -pay is not competitive. -HR does absolutely nothing. * As you can tell the list goes on and on. Long story short anyone deserves better than what this company has to offer. Trust me better opportunities are out there. Companies that are worried about the happiness of their employees are out there. This however; is not one of them.
