Too much micro-managing

Pros

I loved working for Scholastic - their mission used to be to get books in kids' hands and I was all for it. It used to be a fun company to work for. Working remote was awesome. Great benefits. Company is very diverse & supportive of ALL.

Cons

Things have changed with new management. So much micro-managing. Set amount of calls you had to make per day, set amount of hours you had to be on the phone per day. Unnecessary meetings every week. Just became a daily struggle to stay motivated every day. I never felt like I did a good enough job, or did enough.

Pros

Working with schools and getting books into the hands of kids is rewarding. Scholastic Book Fairs is a beloved institution but the loss of book people and addition of entertainment industry MBAs has changed the focus of the company significantly. Summers off are nice.

Cons

Used to be a balance of books/literacy focus and profits but they have used COVID as an excuse to cut people and It's gone from a very rewarding job to a misery. Middle management is bloated and redundant and manages people as a group instead of individually. Lots of lip-service to DEIB but conveniently leaves pay equity out of any discussion.

Pros

Work hours are nice when it comes to a work, life balance

Cons

Management sucks. They have an old school sales mentality and do not want to evolve with new strategies.
