Pros
The digital programs are very good and tremendously helpful when implemented with fidelity. The field sales force for Scholastic Education is second to none. Excellent people who truly care about transforming the trajectory of a childs life.
Cons
Unfortunately the talent starts and stops with the field-based sales people at Scholastic Education. Senior leadership is horrendous in this division and is full of people who are not qualified for these positions, but who take them because of the big salaries that are offered and because of the job titles. Not a single person in senior leadership worked their way up through the ranks. They were all hired from the outside because no one in the field desires those positions or wants to deal with the nonsense that takes place. As others have stated, senior leadership is an "old boys" network here and you are either in or you are not. They manage by fear and consistently berate people, make fun of reps, use sexual innuendos, make inappropriate comments about colleagues, and try to intimidate. And it all starts at the top with the President of the division. In 2014 alone, they turned over 80% of their Regional Sales Directors and 33% of the field sales force. At the end of the day, people just do not want to work for this place. Revenue generation is ALL they care about and doing the right thing by kids has become a secondary mission. Do yourself a favor and wait until the current senior leadership team is ousted before you consider coming to work here. Your career will thank you for it. People gave me this advice before I started here and I wish I had listened.
