Pros

If you get a good manager, and you're an engineer, or in the "family circle," you'll be fine here.

Cons

Poor management and paranoid distrust are recurring themes at SEL. You'll start drinking the koolaid during the week-long oriendoctrination. They will preach noble concepts like quality, cross-training, and employee ownership. Then you will find out that production speed trumps quality, employee owners get zero say in company decisions, and everything is dictated by the CEO (who recently cashed out his stock). Alpha-dog engineers and yes-men move up to top management, and fly around in wasteful corporate jets. Fear, distrust, and retaliation keep people quiet. A 'Security' department screens messages and spies on employees. Friday lunch meetings are misleading cheerleading sessions. New buildings sit empty and unfinished. Progressive, independent thinkers need not apply.

Pros

Very good work culture with motivated and hard working employees. Focus on quality and long term growth. They give young engineers opportunity to work on interesting and challenging projects. Learning curve is pretty steep for fresh graduates and junior engineers.

Cons

Pay and benefits are lower than industry standards. Most engineers work more than 40 hours a week due to tight deadlines, heavy focus on quality and lower cost of projects.

Pros

Lots of opportunities for growing and the work is challenging. The goals are attainable but still stretching to achieve them.

Cons

Growing pains for a "family" company that needs to make the next big step into a large company. Sometimes this gives more reason to step up but also means extra responsibility without compensation.
