Pros

not many pros here honestly

Cons

It appears that management lacks the necessary skills to effectively lead the team. While some may have experience in the credentialing field, this does not translate into effective management practices. Additionally, the compensation, which is under $40,000 per year, does not reflect the demands of the role, contributing to a challenging work atmosphere. The environment is often unwelcoming, with management seeming unapproachable and dismissive when team members seek interaction. This creates a culture that lacks teamwork and camaraderie. Consequently, many employees choose to leave, resulting in a workforce primarily composed of long-term staff nearing retirement who may not be engaged in fostering a dynamic workplace. For those of us with valuable skills and potential, the current situation is stifling. It is disheartening to see talent go to waste in an environment that does not support growth and development. Furthermore, I believe the closure or relocation of the Birmingham office may be indicative of deeper issues within management. I urge you to consider these points seriously, as they directly impact employee morale and retention.

Pros

Nice clinics and equipment. Generally reasonable patient caseloads. Banner surgeons are talented, approachable and generally available by text if you need to contact. Competitive pay with yearly reviews and raises yearly. Excellent hand therapy mentoring program. Good marketing team so therapists can focus on patient care. Good overall health and 401K benefits. Excellent and supportive hand therapy director. Excellent in- house and free continuing education. Free access to medical journals.

Cons

Select Medical is a corporation and all that implies. Performance areas/numbers are micromanaged. Too much middle management. As it seems in most places now, often short staffed especially in specialty areas. Minimal coverage available for specialties (hand therapy) which makes taking time off difficult and promotes burnout. Too much expected of front office staff which results in high turnover and therapists often have to pick up the slack. No tech help for laundry and cleaning. Some poor corporate policies. For example only allowing 40 hours of sick time per year even though you have time carried over time from previous years. The EMR system is a beast and not user friendly. No available way to dictate vs constant typing and clicking. Had to provide my own ergonomic equipment as just a tiny desk is supplied. Laptops are too small and makes it difficult at times to navigate the EMR and scheduling system. Therapists are in charge of their schedule (which has both good and bad connotations), Indecisive patients scheduling can put you behind schedule.
