Pros

Sentara has a wonderful culture, a plethora of resources and fast pace. The benefits offered are top notch. Sentara is big on patient care and the team members go above and beyond. I thought this would be where I retired.

Cons

There are currently many vacant HR positions due to voluntary terminations, this has caused additional stress for team members. If you are interviewing for a position probe to find out the reason behind the vacancies. When HR cannot keep team members there's a bigger problem. The HR culture is toxic because of senior HR leadership. The HR department lacks diversity among the senior leadership team. Employees have a hard time getting HR needs addressed due to the time it takes for outdated processes behind the scenes. I loved the company but I was unable to work in the fear based environment created at the top. The HR team does not align with Sentara's innovation, fast pace and customer focus. Massive changes need to be made, specifically at the senior leadership level, for HR to be a desirable place to work.

Pros

At least you have job security, and can use the experience.

Cons

So many. Management doesn’t listen to any concern you have. They don’t care about their employees’ health at all. You are extremely overworked and under payed. They get mad because you can’t do the job of 4 people, and then yell if you even have a minute of overtime. You are never recognized for your hard work, only given more work to do. The bottom line with them is money. They care about literally nothing else. Was never offered the pension (even though it was before it went away), only the 403b. Due to the company being in the hole from covid, they have taken away raises, bonuses, and will not price match your retirement plans anymore. They are literally penalizing their workers for their loss as a company, and continue to demand employees to work themselves to death.
