      Poor Commitment to Employment Continuity

      Bonuses (only obtained when hospital wide matrix goals are reached)

      Cons

      Salary, Employee retention, Benefits, Retirement contributions, Inexperienced staff training new hires, Food services (the worst in healthcare I have encountered), Limited supplies to cut costs, Employee opinions are interpreted as negative commentary and used during yearly reviews to justify a reduction or complete elimination of pay increase.

      I've been with Sentara for seven years. Overall, it's a great place to work.

      Pros

      The benefits are fantastic. Excellent vacation and bonus programs. Senior leadership is very approachable. Innovation and hard work are recognized throughout the organization. Sentara has never laid off employees due to economic changes.

      Cons

      Depending on the department, opportunities for advancement are somewhat limited. When things don't go right, senior leadership tends to react in a manner that doesn't efficiently address the problems, opting instead on having unproductive meetings and conference calls.
