Pros

financial strength, Berkshire Hathaway parent, manufacturing expertise, distribution strength, industry dominance or monopoly with only two other competitors in soft surface flooring categories both residential and commercial

Cons

large organization bureaucracy, cronyism, market leader complacency, failed international business model, failing hard surface business, very poor revenue diversification, excessively complex systems and communication flow, excess market overlap amongst brands/divisions resulting in inter-company predatory selling, poor employee valuation and broken pay to performance

Pros

The company spent years promoting the positive properties of, interest in, and requested participation in active candor. It was taught that Shaw was a safe place to have different opinions and discuss those openly. Not about social issues, but about work issues.

Cons

New levels of management over the last couple of years have de-emphasized and even reversed the course on candor to the point of practicing retaliation against anyone who would speak out against installing "bad" practices in place of good, which then is equated with challenging the leaders of the new fiefdoms. When asking if "X", "Y", and "Z" were considered as outcomes of the changes in practices, or if one suggests that there are more logical and cost-effective options, bully tactics are employed, responsibilities are taken away, and the person who spoke up is then marginalized to the point of no longer needing them as a part of the company.
