Pros

Access to a lot of training opportunities, Six Sigma, TPM, ISO9000 to name a few. Tuition reimbursement as well.

Cons

Seriously afflicted in terms of cultural, racial and gender diversity. Promotions occur on the basis of who you know and the opportunities to advance are routinely denied to those who are not in the favored few universe.

Thank you for taking the time to give us feedback on the time you spent at Shaw. I appreciate your honesty, and please know that we take your sentiments seriously. Our associates are our most valued asset, and we openly embrace diversity in a variety of ways because it's the right thing to do. Diverse associates make Shaw a better, more innovative place to work. To maintain our diversity of thought, we actively seek to hire associates representing differing walks of life, education and genders. We offer a variety of associate resource groups that facilitate training, networking and other opportunities designed to professionally develop and advance our associates. Again, thank you for your feedback, and we wish you the best in your next endeavor!

Pros

Pay and benefits are competitive. Upper Management have positioned the company well. Lots of really good folks to work for

Cons

If you're over 40 and not already made substantial career growth you're probably not going anywhere. The company is very youth oriented. This is necessary to a point to maintain the future of the company. However, if the company encourages it's employees at any age to get a degree to be considereal for promotion there should be some room for those of us who put the work in to get our degrees while putting in 55-60 a week. The only thing I have to show for my degree is the debt it took me to get it. I wish I had never gotten my degree. Also nepotism is prevalent.

Thank you for your review, and I'm sorry to hear you feel overlooked. We recognize that our associates are our greatest asset and take great pride in investing in them through Shaw Learning Academy and enabling them to pursue higher education. In order to ensure diversity of thought and future success, we do seek to hire associates of all ages. We're certainly proud of you for pursuing higher education, and I encourage you to sit down with your manager to discuss how your team can tap into the new skills you obtained from your classes. Thank you! - Deane Osner, Talent Acquisition

Pros

Most of the managers are nice people. The pay rate is fair for the area.

Cons

Shaw has bought in to the new "hire engineers as managers" philosophy. Most of them go through an internship straight from college and then are hired as full time managers. The have no experience managing people and know almost nothing about the jobs they are managing, and what's worse is they don't want to know anything about either. They're there to put a job on their resume and move along. I'm just hoping to get out before they run this great company into the ground.
