Pros

The pay was great. Good Training. Good benefits. Education benefits.

Cons

Poor Management, good ol boys club. Unexpected layoff. No notice to hardest working, promotions went to the laziest people that sucked up to management.

Pros

I believe the longevity of the work force shows how people value Shaw as an employer. They are under the Berkshire Hathaway Company so there are deep pockets available if needed. The training available to all employees is impressive.

Cons

I listed it as a pro, but it is also a con with the longevity of the workforce. At times there is not a lot of opportunity for advancement with a work force that does not leave the company and also due to the economy where jobs have been reduced and where people aren't retiring. Another thing is the company at times gets stuck in the "Shaw" way, we've always done it this way why change.

Pros

It's close to my house and the people I work with are good people. The company itself is a good company. We have pretty decent benefits and I feel that my pay is in line with the market.

Cons

The environment is hard to work in. The management has no clue how to step in to any of the positions at our plant, even though the Shaw guidelines for facility managers states that they must know how to perform each position under their management. It's not good for morale when we are constantly being told that we should be able to do perform our duties faster and with more efficiency. It's laughable since this person has never done any of our jobs. This manager was in the shipping office during a lunch rush one afternoon and ended up leaving, and said he'd be back "when we weren't so busy". Rather than helping because we were short-handed, he chose to leave. All he is concerned with is "getting our numbers up". He's not at all concerned with the fact that we are people, not numbers. If he at least tried to familiarize himself with our processes, the morale would be much better.
