Pros

They give relative flexible hours for those who need it, such as students, using this as a second job, or just have other commitments. Get to learn how ridiculous customers can be in a retail setting, teaching you how not to act at other retail stores and to be more sympathetic and compassionate for other retail workers.

Cons

It can be difficult to move up or get promotions. Starting pay is minimum wage for most workers and can be difficult to get a reasonable raise (yearly raise is only $0.25 an hour). Most full time/department managers do not want associates to be cross trained, which is very strange considering they are always looking for help and/or pull cross trained workers from their current department to another in need. A lot of people are not trained as long as they should be or the quality of training is lacking (some stores are much better than others).

Pros

It's a great place to get your feet wet and begin your career. They will let you work hard and prove yourself in the company.

Cons

It can be cold working outside someday and you are not allowed to listen to music while working.

Pros

Nothing as far as I can see

Cons

- Everything you do revolves around Shaws. Like you have to wait for your schedule to come out so that you can know if you can do anything or go anywhere which can get really annoying because they apparently get the schedule done 2 weeks in advance but you have to wait to see it. If you want to do something you have to plan two weeks in advance they don't care if something urgent comes up. If something urgent comes up you have to find someone to replace you and if you can't oops oh well looks like you have to come to work anyway and it's not our fault it's yours. I once had a funeral to go to that didn't get planned two weeks in advance because the person literally just died a few days ago and I was just told that I had to find someone to replace me or I'd have to come in to work and miss the funeral. Coworkers don't know how to mind their own business or shut up there always has to be gossiping going on All the store manager does is walk around all day watching what people are doing like he doesn't have any other kind of work to do. If you don't have a customer you can't even look at the newspaper ad for the store for the week because "that's not what you were hired to do" If you don't have anything to do oh well you better keep cleaning that same spot over and over or fixing that same can over and over or they're going to ask you why you're standing around doing nothing and say that's not what you were hired to do. You can't call and say you're too sick to come in because they will just tell you that you need to find someone to replace you. You can't leave early for an urgent matter because they will just tell you that you need to get your replacement to come early. On the days that there are a lot of customers in the store there's never enough cashiers but when there's not a lot of people there are a whole bunch of cashiers scheduled. We have no baggers so we end up bagging everything ourselves or having to hear complaints from customers about how we need to hire baggers Sometimes there are some old signs for sales up which we cashiers get blamed for by the customers. The person who schedules people doesn't do a great job of it at all There have been so many times that we ran out of bags and didn't have any! There's not even an HR at our store right now! Need I say more? The only reason I'm still here is because I haven't gotten another job yet.
