Pros

- Health Insurance - Job Security - Friendly peers

Cons

- Old technology - Slow-moving innovations - Poor pay - No real bonus structure - Not great PTO compared to most other jobs within tech. - Raises are negligent - Talks about providing time for self-improvement but you can't decrease productivity or workload to do it - No real plan to reduce burnout

Nightmare on Broadway

Pros

Coworkers and time off system.

Cons

The amount of time off you can build but you will not feel free using it. Pay is not competitive or comparable to the industry. Time off will only put you in a bad spot due to no additional help when you’re off work. Nepotism at its finest. Four CEO’s in six years! Management above the supervisor level is never held accountable. Staffing issues to the max for the entire claims department, with the exception of management. In the last 3 years management and director positions have exploded, but you do not see additional supervisors, adjusters, customer service representatives, subrogation clerks, or any lower level positions added. The turnover in the claims department in the last three years has been ridiculous. New employees only have a self funded retirement plan and will only have contributions from Shelter if a profit is made. The claims training department is the biggest concern for new adjusters and supervisors. The trainers obviously have little to no experience in claims and this is reflected by the new hires that come back from training.

We read all of our reviews and take the comments, suggestions and advice seriously. We consider our claims personnel professionals and place a great deal of responsibility on them. The training opportunities we provide through our training department with skilled specialists are a way to provide development opportunities that allow our employees to have the skill set they need to be successful in their role. We are sorry to hear that you had a bad experience and appreciate your feedback.

Used to be great, sinking ship

Pros

The benefits are unmatched. In fact, employees called them the 'golden handcuffs' because they were SO good, that they were the only thing keeping us around. Retirement AND 401K profit-sharing matching, full health, dental and vision where the company paid majority of the expense. Also, my co-workers were amazing people, whom I still keep in touch with near daily.

Cons

Upper management had a big shift when the old CEO Rick Means retired, back around 2019 or so. Most of the rest of the VPs also retired shortly after, so the new wave of management that came in, although had very well earned their time there, were not all qualified to be holding upper management positions (especially on the claims side). It was one of those things where 'when it's not broken, don't fix it' just never existed. Vital operating systems got changed on a monthly basis, procedures also got changed, policy volume was up which also meant claim volume went up, and we were desperately understaffed. Over a 2-3 year span, all employees main complaints were 'we need more help.' And it was the quintessential meme where employees beg for more help, but are awarded with a pizza party. Sinking ship and added stress to employees over YEARS will equal the significant turnover they've been experiencing. I watched a lot of good people leave because they couldn't take it anymore.
