Culture got screwed along the way. You are expected to work hard - quick response to emails on weekend is expected. The mindset is I reward you so you should be dedicated to the "company" but reward is sometimes an illusion. Who do you think actually benefits from all the individual contributors hard work? The early exec's actually help - not so many do anymore... If you hear an exec say "trust me"... run.
