Just avoid this place

Pros

remote work, benefits (only healthcare, no dental or vision)

Cons

This company is built as a third-party contractor for another company that made a software called Apricot. That company axed the contract with Sidekick so now Sidekick is trying to make their own version of the same software. This will not last. Avoid them. Billable work is prioritized to senior TC's, then management gets upset when, as a new hire, you don't have enough billable work. Senior TC's hate helping train new employees. They'd rather you just read through half-completed, 4-year-old Notion article and call it "training". They have a history of laying people off, basically every quarter. They laid me off, TWO WEEKS BEFORE CHRISTMAS, through an email, with only 2 weeks of severance pay, and still haven't paid me for my last 2 weeks of regular pay, beyond unprofessional and LAUGHABLE. Management and other TC's are cold, they either overwork you or give you nothing and still expect results, and don't care about your professional goals. Just avoid this place altogether.

Pros

Work from home, I guess.

Cons

Before considering employment with this company ask yourself (or your interviewer) the following : What is the company’s turnover rate? (hint: it’s over 40%) Why would a company have such a high turnover rate? (Answer: Poor management and unrealistic expectations of employees. This company performs layoffs on at least a quarterly basis.) What unrealistic expectations? (Answer: Your working life will revolve around meeting minimum billable hours. Unfortunately, project management is so inept that you will spend weeks working on client projects that have run out of billable hours.) Which is worse? Planned overtime in order to meet project milestones, or immediate unexpected overtime due to poor planning? (Answer: It doesn’t matter, you’ll get both.) Overtime? (Answer: Note you will be an exempt employee and not entitled to overtime pay, nor unused PTO pay. After my lead told me I would be compensated for overtime and encouraged me to ask upper management, I was told that I would receive my overtime as a “bonus” at the end of the year, and then I was laid off. I never was compensated. ) What about the people? (Answer: While you might have some decent coworkers, most people are burnt out and busy putting out their own fires. Meetings involving the Engineering team will turn into a d**k measuring contest, that no one wins. The owner is an arrogant bully).
