Pros

Flexibility and They don't micro-manage

Cons

This company is so far from an EEO employer it’s not even funny. There is so much favoritism and nepotism, and its eating at this company like a cancer. There are so many hard-working employees who have been stuck in very low pay, dead end positions for years, and not given a true opportunity for success because of who they are not associated with. Education and Experience is NOT valued at this company. If you are NOT in a political click, have family or close friends in positions of influence or management you have NO CHANCE at success with Siemens.

Pros

Brand recognition, deep bench of technical talent. Good product offerings. Good career opportunities, provided you're willing to relocate. Good vacation policy. Average medical/dental benefits.

Cons

Losing sight of customer experience, with most of the attention paid to the financial metrics. Narcissistic executives, who pay lip-service to "ownership culture," stain the organization with poor decision-making. There's a cadre of management's chosen few who move up the corporate ladder, despite some of them having obvious ethical shortcomings. Slow to recognize market trends (positive or negative to the bottom line) and even slower to react with viable strategies. This is a fast-follower company; too risk-averse to be a true leader/innovator in most of markets we serve. Habitually implementing some sort of re-org (3 re-orgs in 5 years).

Horrible Culture, Worse Management

Pros

Free iPhone, a few nice employees, and a spectacular view of Austin’s hill country if you have a desk next to a window.

Cons

The office and overall work culture in Austin, TX is uncomfortable. I’ve never worked in an office setting where employees are so unhappy and quick to take out their personal frustrations on each other. Team collaboration is encouraged, but there is rarely a willingness to help each other out. Most teams are extremely overworked and certain employees will simply ignore emails to avoid getting anything else added to their plate. The company is always cutting budgets and asking for everyone to make a conscious effort to do so; however, when effort gets put into saving money, you’ll be criticized for the way you have tried to do so by other employees. Several employees in management at Siemens Intelligent Traffic Systems should absolutely not be. My manager for the majority of my employment at Siemens slowly stopped touching base with me, eventually leading to a total misunderstanding of my day to day. He became my marketing manager due to a lack of resources, then claimed to be the director of marketing simply because of acquiring me on his team, but the man had no marketing agenda and it was quite clear. Going above and beyond is not rewarded, it goes unnoticed.
